Do-gyoon Gwon

Filmmaker Hark-Joon Lee is less known than a journalist with the same name who made the heartbreaking docu-reportage series about North Korean defectors "Korea: Out of the North" that have been aired throughout the globe including BBC and PBS.

Having survived a number of life risking experiences, Lee received several national and international awards for journalistic achievement including Amnesty International's best in human rights journalism and Emmy award nomination. While taking a break from North Korea, Lee realized what he always wanted to do was documentary and took Nine Muses and Star Empire as the subjects of his directorial debut.
