Biography

Anders Nilsson was born on August 15, 1963 in Kil, Sweden. Nilsson's real film education comes from working with the old masters of Swedish thrillers. But even before that, between age 6 and 19, he made many short films, winning a lot of prizes, especially for their experimental quality. From 1983 to 1995 Nilsson worked as a cinematographer, editor, sound editor, writer and director on numerous feature films. Before aged 30 Nilsson had racked up over 100 film credits. His personal style and technique are probably a result of his combination of having both directed experimental and mainstream films. This combined with originality, sincerity, immense research and local flavour in both story and characters has shown to be his films assets – together with his most important trademark: all his films are extremely suspenseful.

In 1996 Nilsson wrote a script that turned out to be one of the biggest Swedish successes in the crime and thriller genre: The Johan Falk Trilogy. The reaction to the films in the trilogy was exceptional. ZERO TOLERANCE (1999) was nominated for five Swedish Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. His latest film, WHEN DARKNESS FALLS, is pushing the genre even further since it is focusing on the idea that there is a connection between different kind of crimes, and that the connection is something that is more worth to man than anything: honour.
