Biography

Anu Pennanen, born 1975 in Kirkkonummi, Finland, is a filmmaker and a visual artist. Pennanen made her film debut in 2003 with short film "A Monument for the invisible ". The film was screened at the Rotterdam and the Hamburg Film Festivals, gaining international recognition through many screenings all over the world, and has been seen on Finnish TV YLE regularly since then.

Her second film "Sõprus – Дружба " (Friendship) was nominated at the Fairplay Lugano, and has been shown worldwide. In 2006 Pennanen was commissioned by the Liverpool Biennial to make the film "A Day in the office". In 2011, the film "The ruin of the gaze" received the Golden Cube award in Kasseler Dokumentarfilm Festival Kassel. Pennanen's work have been screened, among others, at: MOMA, New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, CCA Glasgow, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art Helsinki, CAC Vilnius, Montehermoso Cultural Center Spain, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Manifesta 5 Donostia-San Sebastián Spain.

In 2011 Anu Pennanen teamed up with Stéphane Querrec and co-directed the medium feature film "Staande! Debout!", which premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival in 2013.
