Asia Argento

Actress and director, daughter of the also actress Daria Nicolodi and renowned director, Dario Argento. She grew up sorrounded by the industry. Her debut was at only nine years of age in Songi e bisogni by Sergio Citti. In 1988 she starred in Cristina Comenicini's debut feature film Zoo and the following year in Palombella rossa by Nanni Moretti. However, her breakthrough came with Le amiche del coure (1992), directed by Michele Placido. It raised good criticis after its Cannes premier. Trauma (1993), directed by her own father in the United States, made her worldwide known. In 1994 she directer several fiction short films. In 1996, one about her father, and in 1999, Abel/Lisa, which is about the american director Abel Ferrara, for whom she acted in the movie New Rose Hotel. She won an award for the latter one at the Rome Film Festival. In 2000 she directed, wrote and starred in her debut feature film, Scarlet Diva, a story about a young actress traped in a downward spiral of self-harming excesses within the hypocritical cinema industry.
