A former participant of Carlos Castaneda's classes, Ralph Torjan used Castaneda's approach to life to bring this film into being. The process of demystifying the events and reactions to Castaneda's elusive private teachings was helped by the use of dreaming techniques, wherein Torjan would sit in silence to quiet his mind and allow visions to come.
As a child who preferred to sit and read Zen philosophy while the other kids were playing at recess, Torjan found ways to entertain himself, which led him to make a series of Super 8 shorts, inspired in part by the antics of Mr. Bill. Torjan also made a short film about a daredevil egg who jumps a carton of eggs à la Evel Knievel. His subsequent learning as a participant in Carlos Castaneda's private classes has led him to make Carlos Castenada: Enigma of a Sorcerer.
