Biography
Fabrice du Welz (b. 1972, Brussels) graduated from the Royal Conservatory in Liège and the INSAS film school in Brussels. His short film When You're in Love, It's Wonderful (Quand on est amoureux c'est merveilleux, 1999) was Welz's springboard for his feature-length debut, the extravagant drama Calvaire (2004), which was screened during Critics' Week at Cannes and as part of Karlovy Vary's Focus on Belgian Film in 2010. His second film, Vinyan, was shown at Venice in 2008. His latest film, Alleluia, was shown during Directors' Fortnight at this year's festival in Cannes.
