Biography
Alexey Fedorchenko (b. 1966, Sol-Iletsk, USSR) studied screenwriting at VGIK (2000). In 1990-2005 he worked as a producer and director at the Sverdlovsk Film Studio. In 2005 he founded his own production company, “29th February Film Co.” Fedorchenko debuted with the successful mockumentary First on the Moon (Pervye na Lune, 2005), about a fictitious Soviet moon landing in 1930. The film won many accolades, including an award from Venice, where it premiered. In 2007 came the feature film The Railway (Zheleznaya doroga). He enjoyed great success with his third offering, Silent Souls (Ovsyanki, 2010), which won a prize for cinematography at Venice. He also directed one of the parts of the triptych The Fourth Dimension (2012). Celestial Wives of the Meadow Mari is his fourth feature film.
