Biography
Xu Bing (1955, China) studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing, receiving both his BA and MA. He works within a wide array of media, such as printmaking skills, calligraphy, installation pieces and sculpture, and also worked as a teacher. He resided in the United States from 1990, after his work was perceived as a critique on the Chinese government. In 2008 he returned as the vice-president of the CAFA. Xu has held many solo exhibitions and won many awards including the MacArthur Fellowship and the 2014 Department of State-Medal of Arts. Dragonfly Eyes (2017) is his first film.
