Biography

Gema Juárez Allen studied Anthropology in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Manchester Universities and Cinema at ENERC in Buenos Aires. She is a member of EURODOC and EAVE. Gema also teaches at the program for documentary learning of ChileDocs and enerc. In 2014 she was invited by Tel Aviv's Cinematheque to programme a tribute to documentary cinema. Juárez Allen was the Coordinator of Doc Buenos Aires from its origins until 2003, and started work as a producer in 2005. In 2009 she set up her own company Gema Films, from where she produces and co-produces auteur cinema. With national and international support, her films have been featured in the world's most important festivals and have received innumerable accolades. Among the documentaries that she has produced; ¡Vivan las antípodas! By Victor Kossakovsky, is a film that opened the Venice Festival and was awarded the Mayahuel to the best documentary. She also produced El Ojo del Tiburón, directed by Alejo Hoijman, Corta, by Felipe Guerrero, and Tango de una noche de verano, directed by Viviana Blumenschein.
