Biography

Iván López is a graduate in Spanish Language and Literature and Journalism at the University of La Laguna. He worked as a reporter on the Antena 3 Canarias TV channel, where he was also the director of the Canary shorts programme called ‘Objetivo en Corto’ (With the objective on short). He has also been responsible for the Institute of Hispanic Studies in Puerto de la Cruz, where he has organised exhibitions of the work of young Canary directors. He was a founder member and is one of the members elect for Tenerife on the Upac (the professional audiovisual union of the Canary Islands). In 2005 and 2006, he participated in an exhibition of young directors’ work in Havana where he visited the film school, San Antonio de los Baños. He has directed various shorts and documentaries, one of which, Dueños de una esperanza (sic) won the first prize in the documentary contest organised by Cajacanarias in 2007. In 2008, his feature doumentary, Clandestinos fronteras en el mar was selected for the International Festival of Documentaries ‘Santiago Älvarez’ in Santiago de Cuba. His short Efímeros won the prize for best sound track in the Festival of shorts held in Arona in the South of Tenerife.
