Biography

Thomas Imbach’s films have always explored the boundaries between fiction and documentary, classicism and new technologies. With Well Done (1994) and Ghetto (1997) he transposed his singular combination of cinéma vérité framing and non-professional actors to fiction, working with professionals. His first fiction feature film, Happiness Is a Warm Gun (2001), was shown in the Concorso internazionale in Locarno, as was Mary Queen of Scots in 2013. His films Lenz (2006), I Was a Swiss Banker (2007) and his auto-fiction documentary Day Is Done (2011) all premiered at the Berlinale.
