Ritva (69), her daughter Ulla (43) and grand-daughter Lotta (20) talk about their relationships with men and love, and the price they have had to pay for their independence and liberty. Ritva was 55 when her own children told her that her husband had been having an affair for several years. She began a completely new life, forgot her role as a seemingly happy housewife and mother and trained in the diplomatic service before beginning a career at the consulates of Russia and Estland. Ulla is the modern Finnish woman, single mother of two children, with a high position as manager in a big firm. She was a surrogate mother for her own sister and started running marathons to get back in shape. Lotta chose a complete different path. As strong-minded as her mother, she was 14 when she decided to move in with her boyfriend. The film follows these 3 unconventional women, 3 different stories and 3 generations, from deep winter to the traditional mid-summer feast in the family house. (DOK.fest München)
