Dan Aykroyd is at his comedic best as the namesake nephew of Detective Sgt. Joe Friday. Like his uncle, he's a blue suited, by-the-rules cop who reluctantly joins forces with his footloose partner Pep Streebek (Tom Hanks) to rescue the City of Angles from the machinations of a power-mad Reverend and corrupt Police Commissioner. And those are "just the facts" of this hysterically funny action-comedy. (Fabulous Films)

I quite enjoyed the stylization of both actors, so for me, Aykroyd and Hanks carried the film well, which presents itself a bit like noir, and a bit like a modern crime story. But it's all presented as parody, or at least comedy with plenty of exaggeration. The story is a bit too simple, but that didn't bother me that much. ()
