Aleppo, 2016. The raging civil war forces twelve-year-old Lamya to flee her homeland. The little daydreamer finds refuge in her book of poems, written centuries ago by the poet Rumi. She meets him again and again in her dreams, where the two fight evil monsters and seek out the inspiration that allows Rumi’s poems to offer Lamya comfort and hope. Lamya's Poem deals with the aftermath of war through the eyes of a child. Inspired by watercolour paintings, this lovingly drawn animation film tells the story of a refugee girl, who overcomes the harshness of reality by the power of poetry. (Zurich Film Festival)
