Easter, 1945, small town close to the front in Transdanubia. Tibor, the secondary school teacher orders his class to dig ditches in order to avoid drafting. Jóska and Péter (the younger brother of Tibor) hide a partisan girl, a fugitive from German imprisonment. One day Jana disappears. Uncle Angel, the leader of the local resistance movement lets the boys that the girl is all right. In the meantime Tibor is forced to lead his class to the front. The boys refuse to fight on the side of the Germans and hide in the reeds. Tibor tries to persuade them not to desert, but joins them in the end himself. He sacrifices his life for the class when persuaded. The boys reach the Soviets successfully and they return to the city together. (official distributor synopsis)
