In his luxury apartment in Lugano, Iván Drégely is called on phone by an unknown voice: Mari is dying. The Hungarian oil engineer left the country in 1956, after years in prison. Without saying a word to his English wife, he flies to Hungary. As a student, who had been a peasant girl until the age of 20, Mari believed in the party, worked for the state security, and it was she who sent her love, the „oily boy", to prison. In 1956 Mari was pregnant, but she hid her daughter from Iván even in 1958, when the state security sent her to London to follow him. Iván is taken aback by the betrayals he now learns about, but he soon reaches concord with his daughter. He feels depressed by the power still granted to Mari's former boss at the secret police. After Mari's death he returns to Lugano, where an empty house awaits him, yet he is phoned by his daughter. (Budapest Film)
