Reviews (2)
I hadn't read Dahl's novel, which the film disrespected, judging by the many indignant comments, so I simply enjoyed the fanciful animated ride under the baton of Henry Selick, wondered how I would have liked this film as a child (probably a lot) and stomped to the rhythm of the songs and Newman's great music. The acted passages were very nicely stylized, but I was bothered by the flimsy representation of the main character (even more than the hideous aunts or the even more hideous spider). A nice bit of relaxation. And I got a craving for peaches. ()
An anthropomorphic insect befriends a little boy with dead eyes. Nightmare fuel for years to come, I call foul. ()
