After 1945 the surviving members of an emigrated Hungarian family, the grandparents and Juli, return from the Soviet Union. They move in to Magda's who has come to hold a high position of confidence. Juli is annoyed by the cold, suspicious and humiliating atmosphere in the large apartment and in a world which is carefully isolated from the masses of the public. She recalls her childhood memories abroad. The cinema is her escape, and the free-thinking János, an engineer who does not require Magda's help, means shelter and protection. Juli, who is growing into a young girl, gains her experiences from two different worlds, also enjoying the advantages they both offer. After the arrests and the death of her grandfather she makes up her mind to move from Magda and go to live with János. (official distributor synopsis)
