On collection day, Ható Ignác, a farmer and owner of a medium-size farmland, makes the announcement that he is determined to become a member of a co-operative called "Két Október" (Two Octobers). If he becomes a member, all the other owners of medium and small-size farmlands will follow suit. The owners of huge farmlands, led by Sohár Lidi, make false accusations against Ható. The co-operative people make one mistake after the other by giving too much credit to the accusations and also by failing to comply with the quality work requirements of Ható, an exemplary quality producer. Ható quits the co-operative. He also kicks up a row with his son, who decides to leave and embark on a different career by going on to further education. A former gendarme, who is now Sohár Lidi's lover, shoots at the local Communist party secretary. The story ends by Ható and the co-operative people finding a common language at the sickbed of Mrs. Bozi. (official distributor synopsis)
