1943. French POWs escape through Hungary towards the Balkan. Jacques and Gérard are caught and taken to an internment camp at Lake Balaton. Jacques meets Klári here, who was abandoned by her military officer husband for her Jewish origin. Both want to have a short affair, but love unfolds between them. In March of 1944 Klári gets into danger of life and Jacques saves her. Hidden in a shed they spend happy, loving days together. Jacques secures Klári, than he presents himself to be a volunteer. By the time he returns Klári has been carried away. Jacques understands: they ought have had to stay together. 1946, France. Jacques helps Hungarian POWs and he thinks of Klári in the meantime.
