Set in 1958 in the rolling countryside populated by Virginia's well-to-do, ZELLY AND ME is the moving story of Phoebe (Alexandra Johnes), a young orphan struggling for her identity and caught between the jealous, possessive love of her grandmother, Co-Co (Glynis Johns), and the nurturing love of her governess, known as Zelly (Isabella Rossellini). Zelly is in love with a dream, partially embodied by the shy, stuttering Willie (David Lynch, in his acting debut), who she meets in town on her day off. Determined to break Phoebe of her willful ways, Co-Co banishes everything and everyone that Phoebe loves. Following the example of her idol, Joan of Arc, the child relies on the voices she hears, turning within herself to fill the painful void. The resolution brings all the characters closer to heeding their own inner voices. (Cinemax)
