Dirty Dancing

Plots(1)

Teenager Baby (Jennifer Grey), goes with her family on vacation to Kellerman's holiday resort in the Catskill mountains. Things are pretty tame until she meets Johnny (Patrick Swayze), a dance teacher at the resort who mesmerises Baby with his dance moves, his passion and his misunderstood 'bad boy' image. During the summer of 1963, Johnny teaches Baby how to dance. And, more importantly, how to love. (Lionsgate UK)

English A romantic, sweet summer flick which has a charm of its own. And amazingly, it is possible to sit through it (not enjoy it) even without your better half by your side. Swayze set the bar high for Czech men for a long time, and for some girls this continues to this day. In addition, I have a gleeful desire to throw in one star for the horrible, but truly iconic, Czech dubbing. ()

English The best thing about the whole Dirty Dancing thing is the awkwardly endearing contrast of worldliness and naivety. When Baby says to Johnny "You are everything!" with crystalline sincerity, it’s impossible not to laugh yet experience perverse pleasure at the same time. The ultimate guilty pleasure with an ace soundtrack (and Oscar-winning song!) and an unquestionable place among 80s gems. Plus, it's basically a beautiful fairy tale about a mousy girl who needs a bombastic prince to awaken the right hormones in her. [85%] ()

English In the second half of the 80s, a big hit, practically incomprehensible cult with the passage of time, because in terms of screenplay and acting performances it is an average piece. Even today, I feel that nostalgia plays a significant role in reviewing the film. However, the red library was not yet filmed here, Patrick Swayze was such a handsome man, and young Jennifer was fragile and naive, so the film found its place in the market and succeeded. But the truth is, I still enjoy listening to the song that accompanied the film. A romantic story where music and above all dance play a big role. Overall impression 50%. ()

English At times, it's really hard to believe that the story of Baby and her first summer love takes place in 1963. This is a film approached through the lens of 1987, and the period nostalgia is just a nice bonus. Despite the cult kitsch that it is, it’s also a pure genre film, an exemplary coming-of-age story where everything works, nothing is missing, and everything fits together with precise accuracy. ()

English "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." We still have at home, though perhaps long since defunct, the original VHS of Dirty Dancing, which I will never get tired of even on repeated viewings. When I was a kid, I didn't pay any attention to the details that revolved mainly around the characters of Penny and the Schumachers, I focused mainly on the "dirty dancing" and the many (often perhaps unintentionally) humorous moments, which, however, still manage to amuse me. It is true that some scenes come across as too cheesy, and that some of the dialogue sounds downright silly, but that's just part of this classic dance romantic film. Moreover, as I wrote above, the film also deals with gripping social issues. PS: "I carried a watermelon." ()
