J.J. McQuade (Chuck Norris) is a legendary Texas Ranger feared by outlaws and respected by other lawmen, until a state trooper, Kayo Ramos (Robert Beltran) needs his help to find out who hijacked a U.S. Army convoy and hurt Ramosʼ daughter. With the help of FBI agent Jackson (Leon Isaac Kennedy), the team tracks down American drug trafficker and arms dealer Rawley Wilkes (David Carradine). After Wilkes kills a federal agent, McQuade wreaks havoc on all those who come between him and the law as he battles the criminal using all of his skills and training, including guns and martial arts. Badass David Carradine versus Bad Badass Chuck Norris – and it's pretty funny. There’s absolutely nothing groundbreaking in terms of direction and script (no one could have expected that), but at the same time it avoids downright embarrassing deviations, the actors are alright (even Chuck with a penchant for beer), and the great music proudly reflects Morricone. Few films in the 1980s have been able to nostalgically resurrect Western formulas as endearingly as McQuade. 60%
