Plots(1)

When two teenage cyclists and a hitch-hiking musician are killed in apparently deliberate hit-and-runs, the police department of Santa Ynez investigates, whereupon the seemingly driverless vehicle turns on its hapless officers as well. And when the car strikes rather too close to the home of Captain Wade Parent (James Brolin), he vows to stop at nothing to defeat it. Director Elliot Silverstein keeps everything as slick and streamlined as the car itself, turning the desert landscape into a powerfully mythic backdrop for a potent clash between the forces of good and those of inexplicable but clearly implacable evil. English The Car is mainstream entertainment inspired by Spielberg’s Duel. Though it’s a bit formulaic and cringely awkward in one acrobatic scene, it’s surprisingly atmospheric and dynamic overall. Director Elliot Silverstein created a truly demonic fluidity around the superbly designed car and, in the dusty desert locations, he pushed it literally to an Oscar-worthy performance through great cinematography, quick cuts and refined sound. Generally well-done silliness. ()

English Nice, undemanding car horror :-D I don't consider cars a terrifying horror villain, but I liked this. It’s well made, tense, with the right level of silliness and naivete… I’m satisfied. ()
