Vetró János, the lorry driver, is an alcoholic. His marriage is in pieces, his wife has a lover. Their son suffers an accident. The next day his wife moves out. In his desperation, Vetró drinks even more, and leaves his work as well. Csík is allowed to go home, but his father chases him away. For Manyi and her lover, the boy is only a burden but he eventually ends up by his father's side. Vetro finds employment as a repair-man, but continues drinking. His son is taken to a children's home run by the state. Szabó gets tired of Manyi. She, thinking of their son, would like to return to Vetró. But Vetró would now like to stand on his own feet (also trying to end his addiction), and refuses her. (official distributor synopsis)
