Quicksand

The school mistress, Bosnyák Aranka, is sent to work in a remote, dusty and poor village. The agile young blacksmith of the village, Gyuri, is teamed up with the baron and the vicar to bind the quicksand and plant vineyards. The young man falls in love with Aranka, but his love is not returned. She longs away from the village and wants to be assigned to the capital. Therefore he gets engaged to Göbölyös Mariska, a rich orphan, who has been in love with him for a long time. His sick fiancée, however, dies before the wedding. Gyuri's experiment with grapes is successful, and even the school mistress gets her long awaited placement to the capital. However, upon learning that it was Gyuri who arranged it for her, she changes her mind and decides to stay with him. (official distributor synopsis)
