Requiem for a Heavyweight

Mountain Rivera (Anthony Quinn) is a washed-up heavyweight fighter, badly defeated in a knock-out bout with Cassius Clay (played by himsef, before he changed his name to Muhammad Ali). Rivera's kindly trainer Army (Mickey Rooney) and his social worker (Julie Harris) try to encourage him by suggesting alternate careers now that his boxing life is over, but Rivera's unscrupulous manager Maish Rennick (Jackie Gleason) confesses that he has lost a fortune in bets and needs Rivera to bail him out. Rennick suggests a move from boxing to the sleazy world of underground wrestling, but will Rivera's pride allow him to sink even lower than he already has? (Columbia TriStar UK)
