Kate Forster (Sandra Bullock) is a doctor who lives in a beautiful home by a lake. Forced to move elsewhere, she requests that any correspondence that arrives at the lake house be passed on to her new address. To her surprise, she soon receives a romantic note from Alex Burnham (Keanu Reeves), an architect who lives in the cottage she once called home. However, a look at the postmark on the letter reveals that he lived at the home two years before she did, and that somehow they've come in contact with one another through a space in time. English It’s eye catching, but as a film, it’s rather poorly made with the expectations placed on the viewer practically equaling zero. The idea is original (I haven't seen the original version from 2000), the cinematography is impressive in many places, and overall the film maintains a quite tasteful, decent, and relatively mature romantic atmosphere, with scenes from fancy establishments and nighttime Chicago that can hardly go wrong. However, the dialogues are noticeably weaker, and the time paradoxes are confusing and very uninteresting. Overall, due to its rather long runtime, the film may come off as tiresome, which is a tragic shortcoming considering the genre. The cast is incredibly strong, but in the end, the performances are only slightly above-par, and that's only when it comes to the main roles, the rest are not worth mentioning. Too simplistic, too uninspiring in its execution, and too saccharine. An unnecessary trip to the cinema. ()

English So I was expecting a romantic smoocher with a super plot involving time-travel. I guess what? That’s just what I got. Plus, Keanu Reeves plays a builder (almost like me) and that’s good enough reason for me to like The Lake House ;-). Also, I’m a huge fan of time-travel movies and you can forgive the “awful" paradoxes because after all this is a romantic movie, not a sci-fi. Because I have never seen the original, I have no reason to criticize and I think I can express a certain degree of satisfaction with the end result. No blockbuster, but enough to make me happy. ()

English I liked this romance already in the cinema and I have to say that it didn't disappoint me even the second time. The duo of Bullock + Reeves worked quite well and you want to go through this story with them. I haven't seen the original South Korean version of this remake, but story-wise it worked for me, although something could be criticized about the causality of time. But in the end, you hope... That's something that can be enough for your satisfaction. ()
