Chan-wook Park directs this blood-soaked Korean vampire drama starring Kang-ho Song as Sang-Hyeon, a devoted small-town priest who selflessly volunteers to take part in a medical experiment intended to develop a vaccine that will help eradicate a deadly virus. But the experiment fails and he is given a blood transfusion that turns him into a vampire. Losing the struggle against his newfound desire for blood and carnality, Sang-Hyeon soon finds himself sucked into a vortex of depravity as he embarks on a passionate affair with Tae-ju (Ok-vin Kim), the wife of a childhood friend, and indulges himself in a dark new world of sin and sensual pleasure. English Deviant, entertaining, bloody, sexy, dramatic, sarcastically funny, psychological and even epically long (or just unnecessarily protracted?). This collage of genres and emotions, however skillfully patched together to make a single whole, still remains just a motley mix despite its great actors, thoughtful (hidden) thematic lines and great filmmaking. Less of everything, and without humor, could have been more. ()

English I don’t want to be a heretic, but even though Thirst is a hundred times better and more original than Twilight, I had more fun with the latter – at its expense, yes, but at least something. Thirst is the kind of film that mixes genres so fiercely that their effects don’t multiply but actually cancel each other out. Clearly, it does work on many people, but not on me, unfortunately. I only enjoyed the last forty minutes or so, which raised it to three stars. ()

English South Korean director Chan-wook Park's Thirst is an example of how to make a horror movie with a fresh take on the genre and how even vampires still have something to offer if you look at them in a different light. However, this movie is also an exercise in slow pacing that can even put you to sleep at times. Over two hours of running time are just a lot, and It is clear that this is not so much about the scary atmosphere as it is about what the moviemaker is trying to say. ()
