September 1 2001, Elliot (Nick Nolte), an American CIA agent holding top secret information of a possible attack on the United States, disappears. Trying to track down his daughter and stepson, with reasons shrouded in mystery, he turns to friend Irene (Juliette Binoche), a French Intelligence agent, for help to set up a meeting with them. In a chase by a CIA assassin named William Pound (John Turturro), also aware of the possible attack, they are followed by others willing to pay for the privilege to know more. Travelling from Paris to Venice, they attempt to defy the dangers of international espionage and get to Elliot on September 11, 2001. (official distributor synopsis)
