Miguelito is fresh out of hospital and has decided to become a poet. He hooks up with his mates for a relaxed summer in the sun, full of swimming, drinking and hopefully girls. But pal Babirus’ emotional problems weigh heavy on the group, whilst success in the seduction biz is fleeting. I was quite curious about Antonio Banderas as a director, but after watching his film I have to say I was very disappointed. I found it outrageously long-winded and full of unfulfilled attempts at poeticization and intense expression of feelings. None of the characters appealed to me in any significant way, nor was I able to empathise with any of them. A film that pretends to be something it is not - it is too shallow and does not go into depth at all, which is what I would expect from a film like this.
