Dracula Untold

If the film "Dracula: Unknown Legend" is the beginning of a new monster universe, I'm afraid that this whole project will fail before it even takes off. The film had some revenue, but maybe only because vampires still have a following. However, the film itself is incredibly exhausting, easily predictable, and basically lacks moments that could captivate you. If they had tried another adaptation instead of a similar mess, maybe it would have turned out better. But maybe, just maybe. (10/11/2014)

Whether the new Dark Universe works or not, this initiative has created another enjoyable Dracula. Which in and of itself is very pleasant. This time in a 21st-century version with the Untold moniker. Honestly, whatever substance Luke Evans reaches for, it's more or less certain that a portion of the (female) audience will be satisfied just by the fact that Evans doesn't get off the screen. And if his protagonist is a romantic (anti)hero, then everything else is just icing on the cake. This is how the new Dracula works almost flawlessly. Anyone who wants something different can choose any other version from the countless adaptations that have been made throughout the 20th century. I was pleased with it. (18/11/2019)

He might stumble a bit amidst the Turkish intrigues, but the closer he gets to the finish line, the more stubbornly I have to cheer for the prince of darkness in his fight against everyone. Luke Evans can bare his fangs and thanks to his charisma combined with excellent (albeit modestly served) action, Dracula Untold can appear several classes more magnificent than its reasonable budget or minimal runtime would suggest. Universal's ambitions to build a connected universe were somewhat naive from the beginning, but I will always know who would have stolen the show. (22/10/2014)

Fortunately, it’s not very long, as towards the end it starts to creak. Luke Evans is charismatic, the battle scenes are alright, and the mythology is solid, making it a viewer-friendly and visually undemanding B-movie. I think it offers as much value as it can for the money. Considering that Dracula has been adapted about 10 times already, Evans appears to be one of the best and also most energetic main protagonists. (27/05/2015)

I’d been pretty much looking forward to Dracula. I’d mainly been looking forward to another movie that would feature an appearance by Luke Evans. This guy owns everything that happens in the Middle Ages. It’s simply as if he somehow found himself in this period and couldn’t leave, or rather didn’t want to leave because any time I see him in something, it’s clear to me it’s HIS role. The same thing goes for Vlad the Impaler, whom Bram Stoker borrowed for the Dracula story. But this one is completely different from what you would expect. You see it tells the story of how Vlad became a vampire and I must say that in the realm of fantasy, this is the ultimate feat. I’m surprised that they entrusted this movie to the debuting director Gary Shore, but on the other hand, I must say that he did make a couple of good shots. For instance, Vlad’s first fight; that was a true digital masterpiece. But there were some scenes that made me clench my fists. For instance, the ending, which seemed as if somebody simply decided the movie would end this way and that they didn’t care whether the story would get to it or not. Maybe the movie could have gotten there using the stupidest path… and it did! And there were more moments like this, and it was exactly these moments that pretty much ruined the fantasy world. Despite that, I give a pretty good rating because I really like movies like this and I will be happy to watch it again. (29/10/2014)
