Fergus (Mark Womack) returns to his native Liverpool for the funeral of his childhood friend Frankie, a fellow private security contractor who has been killed on "Route Irish", the deadly and now infamous stretch of road between Baghdad airport and the Green Zone. Route Irish is a fast-paced conspiracy thriller that delivers a fresh insight into the moral and political corruption at play in Iraq. (Curzon Artificial Eye)

Ken Loach has a knack for picking out quite ordinary topics, so it almost seems surprising that he chose something like the Iraq War. It seems a little bit shallow. But in his interpretation, it's about something else entirely; we're barely even in Iraq itself, and we focus on slightly different consequences than what we're used to. Still, the film is not particularly revelatory in the end. ()
