Homicidal maniac returns to his home town and begins a killing spree, disrupting the life of his twin brother. Dekker does very well with a dual role in this moody, unusual B-picture, but the real interest in this film is generated by the presence of Hayward and Farmer, the two female stars. AMONG THE LIVING was a tremendous boost to the just-beginning career of Hayward, her lively, engaging performance catching the eye of more than one producer at the time. Sadly, this is one of the later films of the gifted Farmer, her tragic bout with alcohol and mental illness coming soon after this picture. The brilliant photography by Theodor Sparkuhl is a very early example of the film noir chiaroscuro style. (official distributor synopsis)
