Long Haired Giant Monster: Gehara is sort of a parody of the kaiju genre, but at the same time, it's a film that honors the genre and delivers exactly what is expected from it. This isn't a mockery of the genre; on the contrary, it's a tribute and a demonstration that classic approaches can work even in modern times, showing that it's not necessary to focus solely on modern effects. The practical effects still work well; they just need the space to do so.
