According to a local legend, many years ago horses in the village Vasilievka appeared by some miracle. Since that time the famous herd of horses was cherishingly protected by the villagers – they managed to save the horses even in the time of war and hunger. But nowdays, when a failure of crops happened here and the chairman of village council has to decide how to pay people their salaries and how to return the credit given by the bank, he has no other choice but to sent horses to a slaughter-house. The whole village tries to protect horses, but the economical practicability is more important than all other arguments. And now the only one who is ready to protect the herd is little Mitya Vorobiev, the son of the shepherd. (Moscow International Film Festival)
