Luc Jacquet brings to the screen the story of Claude Lorius, who set out to study the icescapes of Antarctica in 1957. He tells of our planet's history and of our future - a future inextricably linked with mankind's impact on our planet. A unique - profoundly human - scientific adventure, this is the story of a lifetime devoted to pursuing the vital secrets of existence hidden at the heart of a frozen world. (Cannes Film Festival)

English A documentary with both heart and a scientific mind. But you have to be interested in the given issue or you’ll yawn through it. ()

English A functional, clever and understated eco-awareness film (I'm deliberately avoiding the word agitprop, given that the film patiently tries to build its message on Lorius' unquestionable research) that strokes the heart with the story of an adventurous scientist and his lifelong research, while building up a sense of gloom over the results of his research. Which is virtually the same mix of feelings that Clause Lorius is currently experiencing. Perhaps there could have been fifty fewer of those quiet close-ups of the wise, silent face of the old man gazing into the distance. ()

English If you enjoy ice, you'll love this documentary film, which beautifully shows how even icy landscapes can be stunning, how variable they are, and how beautiful. Sure, probably not everyone will go there, but the documentary shows how beautiful our Earth is in every way, and how there are people who want to explore it and not destroy it. ()
