When a terrorist's body, infected with a stolen chemical, is recovered by the US military, the corpse is cremated, unintentionally releasing the virus/bacteria into the atmosphere over a small island. Soon the infected populace mutate into flesh-hungry zombies, and a trio of soldiers on leave must team up with a group of tourists and board themselves up in an abandoned hotel as they try to fend off the agile and aggressive living dead. English Zombie 3 is a very bad Euro-trash horror movie with no atmosphere, weak costumes, terrible acting and the militant-simpleton syndrome of American action B-movies of the 1980s. Yeah, the action actually plays a bigger role here than fear. You won’t find even a trace of suspense in this movie. Lucio Fulci didn’t make this film; he only finished it. And he always distanced himself from it. He even protested against putting his name in the credits. And it’s easy to see why. Although he didn’t exactly make cinematic gems himself, his films always contained certain creative directorial touches that added to their alluring distinctiveness. Zombie 3 contains no creative signature at all and its almost insultingly stupid in its final third. One star only for the mild trashy entertainment in the first half. ()

English Zombie 3 is one of those films that are just hard to watch. I enjoy films of almost any genre, but when it's just aimlessly going nowhere without anything engaging, I end up dissatisfied even with films where I usually know what to expect. Here, there's no point in expecting anything, because you won't get anything. The question is whether things would have been better if Fulci had stayed at the helm. ()
