The documentary-feature film taking place in the seventies is the "development novel" of Cséplő György, the intelligent and ambitious Gypsy boy. Having finished only two terms at school, the eighteen-year-old boy leaves Németfalu with two of his companions to find employment in Budapest and to break out of his miserable existence in the village cottage with the help of his small savings. His illiterate mates return home soon, but Gyuri stays. He works at several places, studies diligently and passes all the stages of the Calvary as most Gypsies working in the city do. His most decisive experiences about poverty and prejudice, however, are not made at the plants but in the tight and unkept cottages of the brick factory workers. He returns home, as he misses his old friends, but after a while he decides to leave again. (official distributor synopsis)
