The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie captivates at first glance with imaginative animation based on the globally popular building blocks. The film is also not without a certain originality when it comes to the script, where basically anything is possible, as long as it can be "rearranged" like Lego pieces – which was, however, one big and fundamental problem for me. In some places, I found the plot a little too disjointed. Of course, I accept the fact that this is an animated fantasy for children, where anything is possible, but everything has its limits. I liked the live-action insert, even though the film could have done without it – it seemed too overdone. Still, this is an unpretentious diversion, which will find both its fans and its detractors through its unconventional concept. (15/02/2019)

Everybody I asked if they’d like to go to the theater with me looked at me as if I were crazy, their loss... Bags of fun, full of ideas, great lines and incredible digs, where Gandalf and Dumbledore chat together and the Batmobile is parked on a Lego cloud at the end of a rainbow road. Such an awful mishmash, you just can’t help liking it. That’s what the story is about - a manual against fantasy, creativity struggles against business (Lord Business) using all possible and impossible ideas. The creative Lord/Miller duo mainly wants to put across an important message to children and adults alike: LEGO IS THE BEST! ;-) "We are from the planet Duplo, and we're here to destroy you!" I was incredibly excited about this movie because I knew that Lego never disappoints. And it didn't. This is an excellent spectacle that is entertaining, creative, and in every way. Lego characters and individual pieces, their deformities, are used to the advantage of the film, and the whole thing just looks excellent. I had a great time, and the pop culture references... pure bliss for my soul. I literally devoured the ending. (27/05/2014)

Thanks to awesome trailers and great reviews, my expectations were really high. Too high, unfortunately... It turned out to be a decent nostalgic animated movie full of great jokes and one-liners, except that 90% of them were given away by the authors in the trailers, so there wasn't much left. Plus, the final point of the movie... well, I wasn’t expecting anything groundbreaking, but this was really disappointing (even the Simpsons parody was better). In any case, there are also positives – I had fun for the most part, and the Danes are going to rake in loads of cash again. (20/05/2014)

A presentation of Warner Bros. trademarks in the world of the construction-set king. It is the movie with the heaviest product placement ever (if we don’t count Logorama) hiding behind family fun. You take your kids to the multiplex, buy them some overpriced popcorn and on the way home spend the rest of your money in the Lego store. A few cool jokes and thorough technical craftsmanship, but those robotic figures are no more alive than the primitively animated Cartman and Kenny. And the final surprise with the “big idea” doesn’t make any sense. (03/04/2014)
