Plots(1)

Hungary, 19th century. Following the surrender at Világos, Majláth Ferenc, lieutenant of the Hungarian Hussars, is going to be placed in an Austrian company of refractory soldiers, as his companion in the revolution has committed suicide and his superior, the Colonel, has deserted. After two years, he is discharged upon the intervention of the influential Uncle Heinrich, an official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Back home, he falls into apathy, and refuses to rise from his bed. A family christening, however, wakes him up from this passive resistance. He quarrels with his "benefactor" who turns every idea into an imperial unity. The same day, the mysterious colonel drops in. He is allegedly an agent of Kossuth. But all this is perhaps but a feverish vision? The next day the whole family is arrested. While the others are released, Ferenc is carried away to a mental asylum, where he commits suicide. His revolutionary name and image is used by mysterious forces. (official distributor synopsis)
