The film The Man Who Plants Trees takes the audience to Cameroon. In ancient times, the Kedjom-Keku tribe settled in the forests of the Big Babanki Valley. Gradually people started to dominate nature in these green and lush mountains. The agriculture with its terraced fields “digs in” to the hills and the misty forests are quickly vanishing. In their quest to earn a living, the locals do not realize that logging deprives them of the most beneficial thing they have. The forest provides them with protection, is a source of livelihood, and also offers shelter to animals. Due to logging, the natural environment of orangutans and many other protected species is being lost. One of the locals, Ernest Vunan is aware of the threat. Therefore, he has decided to devote his life to the rejuvenation of the forests and to the enlightenment of the inhabitants of the Big Babanki Valley. Ernest was joined by a group of individuals from the Czech Republic and Slovakia who established the Kedjom-Keku Civic Association. Under the auspices of the association, they are helping raise local public awareness and build a school in the mountains for tribal children, because, as we always hear “children are our future.” (Academia Film Olomouc)
