Social issues, the breakdown of society and decay of traditional values are some of Gianni Amelio’s favorite topics and he addresses them in his latest film. He comments on Italy's current economic crisis through a highly stylized and surrealistically conceived (very) bitter comedy about a man named Antonio who makes his living as a substitute. Every day, he substitutes for someone who cannot go to work at the moment but doesn't want to lose their job. Antonio thus delivers pizza, guts fish, builds houses, sells flowers, cleans stadiums - whatever is necessary to keep the work and money going. His character, similar to Chaplin's Tramp, is in direct contrast with the cruelty of “modern times”. (Febiofest)
