Unfortunate circumstances bring a father and a son together. Their mutual alienation is emphasized by the contrast of tradition and folklore in a Romanian village, the old man's home, and the Japanese culture in which the son raised his family. The seemingly simple story of a father and a son, who are looking for a way to fill the almost twenty-year gap in their relationship, describes absolute loss and ability to find a lost direction again. The melancholic, yet sometimes amusing Romanian debut, is in contrast to gloomy and desolate films of the Romanian New Wave. The film's slow tempo and lyric imagery reveal family reconciliation, the last beacon of hope amidst tragedy. (Febiofest)
