Clara Immerwahr—a scientist and the first woman in Germany to be awarded a doctorate in chemistry. However, the pressure to conform to traditional gender roles and the outbreak of World War I did not allow her to reach her full potential. Together with her husband Fritz Haber, who won the Nobel Prize in 1918, she worked on the abstraction of ammonia. Unlike another scientific couple—Marie Curie Skłodowska and Pierre Curie—Clara and Fritz’s cooperation and coexistence gradually became knotty. This TV film’s central themes include women’s status in science and society and the use of scientific research for war purposes. In fact, Haber is referred to as the “father of chemical warfare”, of which Clara publicly disapproved. (Academia Film Olomouc)
