One day, they accidentally hypnotise their principal into believing he’s a dimwitted hero named Captain Underpants. A more playful (formally, narratively and above all because of many jokes) boy animated movie for rascals is really hard do find. Almost impossible to find. The more figurative, the more accurate in terms of spirit the adaptation of Pilkey's cult books (for boys of preschool to early school age, of course) about the escapades of George, Harold and Krupp (ups, spoiler) during revolts against the tightness of the school system is. The books are not a great literature, but they are extremely entertaining thanks to their careless yet intelligent humor. They are entertaining even for grown-ups who read them to their children as bed-time stories. The same could be said about the feature film version. You will definitely find more educating and ambitious children books, but it will hardly be so fun for you to look at them with such a pleasure from the position of kind of a “serious authority". And at the end of the day you might be entertained more the target kids. ()
I was expecting it to be some goofy, animated movie for kids, but this is a pretty good movie for those who like comics and superheroes. Sure, on the one hand, it's a parody of the superhero genre, but at the same time, it entertainingly follows its rules. And it's really funny. This was an animated surprise for me. ()
