The film deals with the correspondence between Brazilian sculptor Frans Krajcberg and a woman who has been convicted to prison for more than 21 years. The correspondence started with a letter from the woman to Krajcberg that made a deep impression on him. Gradually it becomes clear what the sculptor recognises in the woman: once he stood at an abyss in life, too, when his family had been killed in the war in Poland. Socorro Nobre looks at the urge to survive and the possibility to overcome the past. The letters are read by a voice-over, accompanied by images of Krajcberg's daily activities and of prison life.
