Budapest. Turn of the century. Csuszik Zsiga, a family man, was fired from the tax office because of some embarrassing problem, but Mrs. Csuszik tries to maintain the illusion of a decent white-collar family. Their only chance is to get a wealthy husband for the beautiful Kornél. Their candidate is Fox Rudi, a dentist, who, however, soon turns out to be poorer than them and needs a rich girl to help him. Kornél wants to get away from home and moves in with Rudi. Later she leaves him only to live under a money-bag's protection. Rudi, in love with her now, can only win her back by proposing to her. Poverty remains or even gets worse, but Kornél has a fiancé. (official distributor synopsis)
