At the beginning of the thirties the sour, boring life of the Hungarian small town is enlivened by a charity action: with the lead of the beautiful wife of the attorney funds are raised for the orphans. Everyone donates, organises and courts the favour of Mrs. Kelemen, who would like to belong to the elite: the police captain, actor, doctor. On the great day the model orphan is ordered to present himself on the main square: Karada Mihály listens to the play with mixed emotions. As he also cannot detach himself from the general adoration, representing the thanks of the orphans he wildly bites into the hands of Mrs. Kelemen held out for kisses. (official distributor synopsis)
