Little bull Ferdinand prefers sitting quietly under a tree just smelling the flowers, rather than snorting and butting heads with the other bulls. English Ferdinand is a cute animated film, it’s story and animation that might not reach the quality of recent films like Zootropolis, Inside Out or Moana, but it still managed to draw me in for the whole hundred minutes. Apart from the moral lessons typical for animated films, it had more than one exceedingly funny passage that made me laugh from the heart, especially during the scenes with Lupe the goat, the trio of hedgehogs and the horses. But even the ubiquitous bulls and bullfighters managed to make me laugh, but also touched when the film started to play on a more serious note. In short, a likeable flick with a good dose of humour as well as a dash of suspense and a healthy amount of didactic material. ()

English At first glance, this is not a very remarkable picture, although it obviously made it into worldwide theatrical distribution. Upon closer inspection, it is a classic story about an outsider who stands out and tries to fit in, despite being very much himself. And in the end, he succeeds beautifully. Thanks to that, the picture gains sympathy. ()
